This website carries the outcome of our joint efforts over decades (K P Mohanan and Tara Mohanan) in the broad domain of education that aims at the capacities for critical thinking, inquiry, and research across disciplinary boundaries.

Many of the articles, videos, and books here can also be found at ThinQ website (www.thinq.education). Some of the newer pieces, and those that come under specialised research (e.g., theoretical linguistics) are not featured at the ThinQ website.

Our work is predicated on the premise that the primary purpose of institutionalised education is to help learners develop the capacities associated with educatedness.

For us, educatedness is:

the capacity to strive for well-being — one’s own, as well as that of all life forms including all humans — along the biological, emotional, intellectual, ethical, societal, economic, aesthetic, and spiritual dimensions.

Our own focus in this vision is on rational inquiry into questions of truth, ethical judgment and action, and pragmatic action, locating the focus in intellectual well-being. This strand of education — called academic intelligence or Higher Order Cognition — is underrepresented in the curricula of both school education and higher education.
